Dural Women’s Bowls

Dural lady bowlers had yet more reason to appreciate the support of the Bendigo Bank when Bendigo Bank staffer, Karen Gardiner, came along to present a new set of bowls for the club’s use with new bowlers. Dural may have found a new bowler as, after presenting the bowls to President Robyn Scoble and after few minutes’ instruction, Karen took the new bowls to the green and was soon bowling along with a group of encouraging ladies. Apparently Karen and all the ladies on the rink had an enjoyable time and are looking forward to her return to continue the adventure. Trained coaches are always available to teach new bowlers the basics of the game. The final of the Triples Championship was played and won when Christine Fitzgerald, Ruth Keene and Diane Trovato defeated Marilyn Bonvino (sub. for Marelle Saunders), Elizabeth Whelan and Leone Lesslie. Ruth and Diane also attended the Mitchell District Presentation day where they were presented with their Runner-up, Senior Pairs prize. It was a fitting final and a send-off to Christine who has moved to Bribie Island in Queensland with husband Rod and will continue chasing bowls glory. Many of the members stayed for lunch with her in Fedele’s fabulous restaurant on Chris’s last day.Contact 0411 375 580 or 0421 315 074 for the men’s and women’s coaches.

Combined Probus Club of Kenthurst

Continuing its recent vein of our Guest Speakers addressing us on Australian history, at its meeting on the 19th of August the Club had a talk from Merinda Air from the Maritime Museum whose topic was “HM Bark Endeavour”.A reconstruction of the vessel has been built which includes the actual ship’s fittings and furniture. Merinda’s talk was focussed mainly on the scientific people (all men in those days) who accompanied Captain Cook on his voyage to the South Pacific, which included astronomical observations in Tahiti and of course his visit to Botany Bay.The Club’s next meeting is on Monday 16th of September when the Guest Speaker will be Riccardo Bosi who will speak on the topic: “ The United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan.”Kenthurst Probus meets on the third Monday of each month (except December) at the Kenthurst Uniting Church on the Corner of Kenthurst Road and Jones Road at 9.30 AM.
