The Hills Shire Council has adopted amendments to The Hills Development Control Plan and Tree Management Guidelines which give owners more say in how their trees are managed.

At a recent Council meeting it was determined that property owners do not require approval to remove trees within five metres of an existing dwelling or approved ancillary structure.

Other changes to the DCP and Tree Management Guidelines include the ability to consider the removal of dangerous trees through a tree management application, even those that are deemed healthy, if they are greater than 15 metres in height, and can impact and cause damage to a dwelling.

Seven tree species have also been added to the exempt species list.

All changes will come into effect in the next few weeks.
