Over 10 days in January this year, a team of 14 international volunteers from the Rotary Clubs of Glenhaven and Illawara Sunrise joined together to provide medical and dental support to the people of Negros, Philippines.

The team included 2 doctors, 2 dentists and 2 nurses, along with other Rotarians providing logistical and community engagement support. This is the third such mission attended by members of Glenhaven Rotary Club, while Illawara Sunrise Rotary Club has been involved for much longer. In all, 5 villages were served involving 1,311 medical patients and 463 dental patients. Unused medical and dental supplies donated or purchased for the mission were left behind and shared amongst village medical centres, while donated prescription glasses, toothpaste, toothbrushes and basic first aid products were issued to villagers during the mission.

In addition, this year one local school was provided with refurbished computers, including basic operating software. The annual event is coordinated in the Philippines by a local Rotary Club, Metro Bacolod with support coming from local government and private business supporters. Many thanks go to Rotarians from both Clubs and other community members who so kindly donated supplies and equipment for the mission.

Those who took part in the mission met all of their own costs and are to be applauded for their dedication and commitment. Glenhaven Rotary Club meets Tuesdays for dinner at Springfield House – details are on our website www.glenhavenrotary.org.au
