With Matt Kean – Member for Hornsby –

I spent a beautiful Sunday morning hitting the streets of Dural door knocking for the Red Shield Appeal. It was wonderful to meet some of the residents of Dural and I was blown away by their generosity.

The Salvation Army is an organisation so important in the community. If you fall on hard times or you are just in need of a bit of assistance they are there to help. In any given week the Salvation Army will provide 100,000 meals, 2,000 beds for the homeless and 8,000 grocery vouchers. They run breakfast clubs and homework clubs for school aged children and every year assist 3,000 women who suffer domestic violence. This is just
to mention a few of the important services the Salvation Army provide.

Every dollar I collected from the wonderful residents of Dural will help the Salvation Army provide these essential services. As the saying goes Thank God for the Salvos!

Another group doing amazing work in our community is the Hornsby SES. I was able to attend their annual dinner which awarded members for 5, 10 and 15 years of service. It was also a pleasure to hand over the keys to a new medium storm vehicle. The State Government has rolled out a number of new vehicles such as this one to SES branches around the state.
Our community in Hornsby owes the men and women in the Hornsby SES a great debt of gratitude. Well done Hornsby SES on another successful year.
