The Galston Concerts 2019 series will feature young stars performing with their internationally renowned Conservatorium teachers in Galston Uniting Church, 2pm Sunday 24 March.

Violinist Sarah Chang is a prolific prizewinner in Australia’s leading strings competitions including winner of the 2018 Concerto Competition of the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic.

A student in the Sydney Conservatorium’s Rising Stars program since 2010 and a music scholarship student at Abbotsleigh School through her high school years Sarah recently topped the state in HSC Music, performing at the Sydney Opera House for HSC Encore.

In Galston Sarah will join with her teacher, Russian violinist Evgeny Sorkin, in music by Handel, Shostakovich and the Spaniard Sarasate. The concert will also feature young guitarist Jeffrey Cheah performing virtuoso Italian duets by Carulli with his teacher, Vladimir Gorbach.

A finalist/prize-winner at fourteen international guitar competitions, including podium finishes in Singapore, Taiwan and Melbourne, Jeffrey’s summa cum laude degree from ANU is now complemented by his postgrad studies at the Sydney Con.

Tchaikovsky violin solos from Sorkin plus guitar solos by Bach, Italian and Spanish composers from Gorbach will be topped by violin-guitar duets – tangos by Argentinian Piazzolla in a folky finale.
